What a fantastic Christmas gift from Margaret (my wife) – thank you so much! The mixer is a little complicated to use (and the manual isn’t very good), but I’m quickly getting there. I’m really looking forward to the flexibility that the mixer will offer. With some more microphones, I will be able to conduct in-studio interviews, mix in the music and jingles (reduces the post-production work), and create backups to my Zoom H4N recorder. The last one is very important, too – I would hate to lose an interview because of a computer crash or a power outage…
The quality of the Behringer X1204USB mixer is simply amazing, plus I can quickly “tweak” my voice for optimal sound quality. I previously used Garage Band on my Mac, but I will have much more flexibility using the mixer. In the fullness of time (especially not right now due to my current Christmas bills), I see myself getting:
- a compressor / limiter (balances out the loud / quiet and removes low background noise)
- a multi-headphone monitor (guests may not want to hear themselves as loudly)
- a sound rack (to place all this gear)
- etc.
This is part of my sound quality improvement strategy. I’ve had to learn lots over the past year, and I firmly believe that there is much more to learn…
