Research Reveals the 2 Most Important Competencies for Success by Bill Gentry at Center for Creative Leadership on 27 July 2013

It can be difficult to narrow down the most important aspects of leadership – what is most required in one industry may not be the same in another.  What works in one country may not work in another country.  What is effective at one level of a hierarchy may be less effective at another.

The author’s company did research across these variables and have come down to two recurring themes:

  • Leading employees – delegating (with an emphasis on mentoring), communicating, and motivating
  • Strategic perspective – understanding the big picture, understanding the problem, and understanding networks
