Here are some of our thoughts (please listen to the podcast for a complete description):

Ambiance / description of place / music / WIFI

Chris – Pretty nice café near the Bras D’Or lake.

Margaret – It is a multi-levelled establishment and it seats more people than you would expect.  It is rustic looking and very tidy. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you.

Greeting / reception

Chris – Friendly

Margaret – We were greeted by the people working and exchanged some chit chat with the staff.

Menu prices

Chris – Very reasonable.

Margaret – The prices were reasonable and the servings were a nice size.  Not too much and not too little

Highwheeler Cafe – Cappuccino

Chris – Felt very much like a Starbucks (small selection but tasty options)

Margaret – The menu was small but there was something for almost every taste and diet restriction.

Smell / look / taste of Breakfast Bagel with Cheese and Bacon

Margaret – The bagel was tender and chewy, the bacon had almost the right amount of crisp for me and the cheese, provolone, was tasty.  I would like to have had some sauce like mayo or aioli but the bagel was tasty without it.

Smell / look / taste of Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bagel

Chris – Okay – what’s not to like? (well, lots if you’re Margaret…)  I’ve always enjoyed this combination – heck, I could eat the smoked salmon by itself!  The onions and tomatoes were a nice touh, but I could have used some capers (it is Cape Breton after all…)

Smell / look / taste of Scrambled Eggs and Bacon

Chris – Charlotte had this dish.  I know that for Charlotte, this bacon was much too crispy – we prefer it more on the floppy side.  The eggs almost had a cafeteria taste to them, as opposed to freshly made.  She did, however, enjoy her Starbucks Frappuccino – wait, isn’t that the competition?!?

Why we chose menu items

Chris – Smoked salmon- ‘nuff said!

Margaret – I chose the bagel because it didn’t seem like it wouldn’t be too much food for me to eat at one time.  I was wrong(!) but gave it a good try.

Service / wait staff knowledge

Margaret – There wasn’t any wait staff per se so didn’t really have to ask him any questions.  You order at the counter and the food is brought to you at the table.  The staff did a good job of keeping the table tidy especially since we were with a large group.

Overall dining experience

Chris – The area seemed to have limited breakfast spots, but this one was right across from the hotel where a whole bunch of us were staying.  Logical (and lucky) choice.

Margaret – It was a pleasant experience made even better by being with family.

Would we go again

Chris – I sure would, although I would be curious to see what other breakfast places are around.

Margaret – Absolutely!
