Another article that points to the deficiencies in modern leadership training, but with a simultaneous call to action to focus on four aspects of leadership:

  • Self-awareness
  • Emotional self-mastery
  • A personal stake in self-development
  • Recruit potential leaders who are humble; not those driven by hubris or ego.

What I like most about this article is the author’s quote:

“Most  initiatives focus on competencies, skill development and techniques, which in some ways is like re-arranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship. Good leaders need to become masters of themselves before they can be masters of anything else.”

In other words, you need to develop your character before you can develop your followers.
